Builder: Holland-Stolte/Lewis Joint Venture
Contract Value: $2.5 Million

The supply, fabrication and installation of structural steel for the:
  • Atrium Ceilings
  • Main Tower Roof
  • Gallery Walkways
  • Atrium Pyramid
  • Structural steel shop front and plaster supports
  • Atrium Flower Boxes

530 Collins Street is the home ofthe new Stock Exchange. It consisted of a Main Tower of approximately 40 storey with an adjacent podium of I4 storey which enclosed the Atrium.

Unique Features The steelwork undertaken for the project was highly and Expertise complex and of an extremely high architectural finish. Required:

The Atrium Ceiling, which was above the I4"' floor, had to be erected entirely without any scaffolding whatsoever. To achieve this the main supporting trusses and secondary members had platforms pre-attached and then erected from the existing concrete floors. Subsequent steelwork was then connected via these platforms.

Once the support framework was installed, approximately 28 individual ceiling units prefabricated with support framework were hoisted into position. The inner and outer curved portions of the ceiling were pre·assembIed on the ground floor in their approximate position and hoisted via V.S.L. screw jacks into the final position.

The ceiling area was a large expanse and the tolerances required on the steelwork were extremely tight, so that there were no gaps visible and lap joints were of a constant uniform width.
